Info on Piano Club

What if my child is unable to make it to a tutor session?

Make sure you email Mr. Musacchio ahead of time. Your tutor will email you what your child missed as well as the make up work for that week.

How do I get accepted into the tutoring program? What if my child does not make it on the list?

Tutoring lessons last 3 months or more per student depending on whether the tutor wants to continue teaching the student. After 3 months, new slots will be available for new students. An eblast will be sent out informing about new tutoring sessions and dates. To increase the chances of being chosen, please email Mr. Musacchio or our email with a brief description of yourself and why you should be chosen. Our piano officers will evaluate your response. If you are not chosen, stay check for other eblasts.

How can I be chosen as an officer?

One way is  being nominated -> passing interview. Another option is applying.

You will be consistently watched and be evaluated based on how often you engage in activities, bake sales, and  meetings. Regular attendance is important. You must show that you are committed. As an officer, you will be expected to do a lot of things. Think actively and be constantly prepared for solutions.

It is optional to submit an application. You can apply anytime. Applications MUST be typed. If not, the application will not be accepted. Minimum requirements is 3-5 sentences and 3 paragraphs. We recommend following the format of a cover letter. Cover letter samples can be located in Microsoft Word or online. You can either send it, as a PDF file, to pianoclubrhs@gmail.com or hand it in person to the President/advisor. The application must be in an yellow envelope. It is HIGHLY recommended to apply because it shows true commitment and impresses officers. Your application will be assessed during interview.

After being selected as a candidate you will be scheduled for an appointment and interview. Be prepared for answers!

Tips:

-No grammatical errors

-Come in interview properly dressed, ready for answers, etc.

-Applying will significantly help with interview

-Talk about why you are capable of being an officer, about yourself, etc. (Applying)

What roles are there for an officer? What can I do to be a successful officer?

Officer roles include secretary, treasurer, and executive officer.

To be a successful officer you must not only be obedient and disciplined, but also an active thinker. You are expected to come to off-school meetings which are very important for the club. Having a lot of schoolwork is not an excuse for not attending an off-school meeting. If schoolwork is an issue, please do what is necessary to take care of the issues; ultimately, manage your time wisely. Once again, these meetings are crucial. An hour and a half meeting will not do you harm.

What is the google classroom code? What is posted on it?

9r3t2r

Our Google Classroom is frequently updated with volunteer hours, future meeting dates, documents, etc.

How often do we hold bake sale? Who do we donate to?

The members of the group decide when bake sales will be held.

80% of the money raised is donated to The Wounded Warrior Project.

20% goes to Piano Club to buy various goods without the members having to pay.

How do I get volunteer hours?

Volunteer hours are offered by going to bake sales, tutoring, and coming to meetings. Every time you attend a meeting you get 1 point. Once you have accumulated 4 points, you will receive 30 minutes of volunteer hours.

The hours will be recorded and posted on Google Classroom.

If you would like to receive your volunteer hours, please ask Xavier either at the beginning or end of a meeting. He will give you a form to fill out. Make sure either Xavier orMr. Musacchio has signed it.

When are recitals? Do I have to participate? Location? Time?

Recitals will be held once a year at local communities.

Although currently there is no set date, we will be sure to post the date and make reminders.

Participation is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended! Recitals are a great way to make an impact on your community while earning valuable service hours. Each recital can last up to 2 hours. Remember, you are not alone. When you are on that stage, forget about everything else and breathe.

How do I become a tutor? How can I prepare? What can I do to teach well and properly?

Before becoming a tutor, you must take a tutor test. These tests are available every Thursday after school in the orchestra room. You must score higher than a 70% to qualify. After passing, you must be evaluated by an officer who will be available every Thursday after school in the orchestra room. The evaluation is meant to see how confident you are in talking, teaching, and representing the school. Please email Xavier if you would like to take a test or if you need to be evaluated he will set up an appointment.

Study guides are in the Piano Club Member folder in Google Drive. Please email Xavier for more information.

When you are tutoring, make sure you:

  • Keep track of what you have taught

  • Evaluate your student's weakness and strengths

  • Keep track of on a piece of paper what homework you assign (Ex: practice _(30)_ minutes everyday. You will be quizzed when you come back)

  • Talk to the parent(s) after each lesson

  • Establish strong communication with the parent(s)

  • Constantly motivate and be positive toward the student (You may encourage your student by giving them small rewards)

  • Email ahead of time if you are unable to attend a tutor session- not showing up is completely UNACCEPTABLE

If you would like practice worksheets, please ask Xavier and he will give them to you.

Current Tutor Schedule:
Applying for Officer position over summer (cont.)

During off-school hours, interviews can not be scheduled. However, you can still send an application letter to one of current officers or through PDF. An exception is that it may take a while for you get a response from an officer. You will be notified whether you have been nominated or not. If you do get selected, you will be titled as a "probationary" officer. In other words, you are entitled as an officer but unable to perform the duties of an officer. Once you have received an appointment for an interview, and passed, you become an officer.
